Pastel on board framed and closed with high quality acrylic, not glass, to ensure safe passage during shipping. Lake Tekapo lies in the centre of the South Island of New Zealand. This highland lake and settlement at 710 metres (2300 feet) is in the heart of the Mackenzie District and surrounded by a vast basin of golden tussock grass. The name Tekapo derives from Maori words Taka (sleeping mat) and Po (night). Finely ground rock in the glacial melted waters give Lake Tekapo a beautifully unique turquoise colour. This painting won best landscape of show at the Molly Morpeth Canaday awards in Whakatane in 2008 and went on to be chosen as one of ten international finalists in a landscape competition run by International Artist magazine.
